The spaceship AAB-Gamma is dispatched from FAFC headquarters in Japan to make a landing on the planet Mars and investigate reports of UFOs in the area. As they near the red planet, they encounter a mysterious UFO that coats the ship's hull with unusual spores. Taking one of the specimens back to earth, it soon develops and grows into a giant chicken-lizard-alien monster that tramples Japan.

The X from Outer Space (宇宙大怪獣ギララ, Uchū Daikaijū Girara; lit. 'Cosmic Giant Monster Guilala') is a 1967 Japanese science fiction kaiju film directed by Kazui Nihonmatsu, and stars Eiji Okada and Toshiya Wazaki. Stock footage of the monster Guilala from the film was reused in the 2008 comedy film Monster X Strikes Back: Attack the G8 Summit.

When a crew of scientists returns from Mars with a sample of the space spores that contaminated their ship, they inadvertently bring about a nightmarish earth invasion. After one of the spores is analyzed in a lab, it escapes, eventually growing into an enormous, rampaging beaked beast. An intergalactic monster movie from longtime Shochiku stable director Kazui Nihonmatsu,  The X from Outer Space  was the first in the studio’s short but memorable cycle of horror pictures.
