The mysterious appearance of an unknown planet brings miniature people, giant monsters, beautiful women and undaunted heroes to the screen. The self-contained planet "Rheton" has the ability to move in and out of galaxies to escape their enemies. Earth sends an astronaut team to investigate, which discovers miniature people. One astronaut survives to help them fight off monsters and Solorite attacks.
The Phantom Planet is a 1961 independently made American black-and-white science fiction film produced by Fred Gebhardt, directed by William Marshall, and starring Dean Fredericks, Coleen Gray, Anthony Dexter, and Francis X. Bushman. It was the first credited appearance of Richard Kiel, although he is not identifiable in the masked monster costume used for the film. The Phantom Planet was released on December 13, 1961 in the U.S. by American International Pictures as a double feature with Assignment Outer Space (1960). The film was featured on the television series Mystery Science Theater 3000 as episode #902.
Classic sci-fi from 1961. A rocket crashes on an invisible planet during an investigation. The surviving astronaut encounters a race of miniature people: the women are VERY interested! The low budget belies the fact films like this were thematically the precursor to modern sci-fi.
