Set in a small village in Germany in 1910 , the narrative revolves around a series of mysterious murders, with victims turned to stone. Central to the story is Megeara , a Gorgon, whose gaze can petrify those who look upon her. The local doctor, Dr. Namaroff (played by Cushing), is embroiled in the murders, prompting Paul Heitz (Richard Pasco) to investigate the truth behind the legend of Megeara.
